In the hostile mobile game environment, many games have a demand for cloud services. At the end of 2019, Cocos and Tencent Cloud officially announced a strategic cooperation. We announced we are jointly exploring to improve the efficiency of game development workflow and promoting game development using cloud services.
Today, Tencent Cloud's game-related services are officially a part of Cocos Creator with the release of Cocos Creator 2.3.4. Chinese developers can use Cocos Services to add Tencent Cloud services to their projects.
The New Era Of Cloud Services
With the upgrade in technology found in mobile devices as well as applications, along with a new age of 5G, we see a new evolution in gaming. One of these is cloud gaming. The value that cloud services bring to developers includes:
1. Pay on demand, significantly reducing operating costs, no longer need to buy servers that are idle most of the time for potential peak traffic.
2. Automatically expand capacity as needed, expand usage at any time, and no longer be bothered by peak traffic.
3. Save a lot of operation and maintenance operations; no need to consider server configuration, deployment, and other work.
Compared with self-built servers, using cloud services also adds more professional tools to support services at a lower cost, significantly reducing IT costs, with professional service capabilities that allow developers to have no worries over peak gaming, server failures, and other networking issues.
Strong Cooperation, New Cloud Services
With the acceleration in building engaging games that exceed the players' pursuit of the ultimate game experience, the competition in the game market is becoming fiercer, which puts higher demands on professional tools to help solve complex issues. Game cloud services are one of the tools, and we are happy to be working with Tencent to help developers solve part of the puzzle.
As a dominant mainstream service provider in China, Tencent Cloud is fully competitive in R & D, resources, and capital. In the past ten years, Tencent Cloud has accumulated technology in the fields of development, operation and maintenance, and operations. It is at the leading level in the industry. It can not only meet the business needs of developers to the greatest extent but also provide long-term and stable cloud services.
In the nearly ten years since the first version of Cocos2d-x was released, Cocos 's original intention was to improve development efficiency and make game development simpler. This has remained unchanged. At this time, we also made full use of our technology and resources to join forces with Tencent Cloud to fully meet the performance and stability requirements of games from lightweight to hardcore, and achieve fast access to cloud services with one click inside Cocos Creator.
Available Products And Usage Scenarios
In this release of Cocos Creator 2.3.4, the three products connected to Tencent Cloud are:
- CloudBase ( cloud development ): an integrated back-end cloud service that quickly builds complete applets / mini-game applications, significantly reducing the development threshold.
- MGOBE ( Mini Game Online Battle Engine ): Real-time, flexible, and scalable, high-performance online battle service, which quickly builds multi-player online capabilities.
- GME ( Game Multimedia Engine ): One-stop voice solution to help developers quickly implement various voice functions.
We believe that the cooperation between Cocos and Tencent Cloud will truly bring higher efficiency, faster iterations, and quicker launch for developers, and achieve an optimized combination of efficiency and cost in China.
Cocos will continue to use its advantages to help developers receive high-quality services. We also welcome the vast number of providers from around the world to bring resources to promote with us.
